Tiger! Tiger!
(With Apologies to William Blake)

By Jim Corbett

Tiger! Tiger! Swinging pure
On the fairways of the tour,
Prowling in your Nike hat,
Where'd you learn to swing like that?

What cosmic forces here converged?
What genes and chromosomes have merged
To give you such a sense and feel
And forge your mighty nerves of steel?

What synapse pulses flood your cranium
That once transmitted to titanium
Send golf balls flying in fierce barrage?
-- Did you really learn that in your Dad's garage?

In the footsteps of the greats
He softly treads, he stalks, he waits.
And then with confidence he pounces;
The stare, the swing, the ball... it bounces,

It floats, it soars up toward the green
With power and grace as yet unseen.
And playing through the Amen Corner he
Makes his playing partners ornery.

Oh, Tiger, Tiger, You Da Man!
A cap is tipped from each golf fan.
In the steps of Hogan, Jones and Sarazen,
It's clear to all ... that you'll be there again!
